Teams of Helpers - Your Team Leader is the Finish Timekeeper. As well as reporting in to the Helper Coordinator at Monkton Boathouse, please report to your Team Leader when you arrive. If, later, you need help, please contact him or her first.
If you haven't done this job before, make sure that you get adequate advice and training before the race from an experienced time keeper.
Your job is to ensure that the person writing the times down knows which crews are about to reach the timing line. This is a straightforward job at the start when crews come one at a time, but complications can arise at the finish when several boats may be coming close together. In cases like this you may say to the scribe something like "crews 17, 19, 18 approaching." The scribe will write these numbers down in the order you give them. If it turns out the order was wrong, then give new information to the scribe.
You need to be aware that the scribe is taking information from the watch as well, so you need to be sympathetic and get your word in the right suitable moment.
If you're working at the finish, you should keep a written record of the order in which Crews past the timing point.
please liaise with the person who is taking over from you when you finish your duty, and hand on equipment. At the end of the day, please bring all equipment back to the Monkton Boathouse.
Please feel free to suggest improvements to these notes.
Thank you for your help.
