Teams of Helpers - Your Team Leader is the Starter. As well as reporting in to the Helper Coordinator at Monkton Boathouse, please report to your Team Leader when you arrive. If, later, you need help, please contact him or her first.
The Starter will place you about 10 strokes above the Start. As each crew comes by, you shout "Number xx, GO". The starter may ask you to suspend racing, in which case you tell all crews to stop. He will also advise you of the sensible time interval between crews. On this river, we tend to spread crews out.
You may be asked to introduce quite long gaps between sections of boats. Also, if a crew is conscious that it is much faster than the crew in front, they may hold back on the start. This is fine. Under no circumstances should crews be allowed to bunch too closely on the start.
please liaise with the person who is taking over from you when you finish your duty, and hand on equipment. At the end of the day, please bring all equipment back to the Monkton Boathouse.
Please feel free to suggest improvements to these notes.
Thank you for your help.
